Doug Gilman is an experienced Texas trial attorney who built his career on hard work, real-world maritime experience, and relentless advocacy for injured workers. As a founding partner of Gilman & Allison, LLP, Doug represents seamen, longshoremen, refinery workers, railroad employees, and seriously injured individuals throughout Houston, Galveston, Port Arthur, Corpus Christi, and across the Texas Gulf Coast.
Licensed to practice law in Texas since 2005, Doug is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. His practice focuses on maritime injury law, Jones Act claims, Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) claims, refinery and industrial explosions, railroad injury cases, and complex personal injury litigation.
What sets Doug apart is his firsthand maritime industry background. Before becoming an attorney, he worked directly on the docks of the Port of Houston. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University in 1996, Doug served as an in-house Port Captain and Stevedore Superintendent for Gulf Stream Marine, Inc., one of the largest break-bulk general cargo stevedores on the Gulf Coast.
In that role, he managed vessel operations, cargo loading and unloading, dock safety, and maritime personnel. He understands how ships are worked, how cargo is handled, how accidents happen, and how safety failures impact real workers. That practical knowledge gives him a strategic advantage when litigating vessel injury cases, crane accidents, cargo incidents, dock collapses, and offshore claims.
Doug earned his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2004. Since then, he has dedicated his legal career to protecting injured maritime and industrial workers and guiding businesses through high-stakes disputes. He brings a disciplined, detail-driven approach to every case, combining industry knowledge with courtroom experience to pursue full and fair recovery for his clients.
Outside of his legal practice, Doug spends time with his family and remains a proud supporter of his Fightin’ Texas A&M Aggies every football season.
